
Dipped down to Echo Park tonight to hear composer Meara O’Reilly’s new arrangement of hockets, the practice of splitting melody across multiple parts. While the form dates back to the vocal music of medieval Europe, it’s also found in indigenous folk practices from all over the world. Her original “Hockets for Two Voices” inspired isolated musicians across the world to play together, apart, during lockdown; she’s a genius.
